"Sunny Days Ahead...."

Have I mentioned that I am in love with Pinterest?  It is so much fun to wander and get lost in all the beautiful pins!  I've found countless new crochet patterns and blogs through this crazy wandering so if you haven't ventured or stumbled upon it, trust me, you won't be disappointed!  Just click here...

Ok, back to the business at hand (or in the hands being worked on!)  I saw this adorable Blythe doll hat a few days ago on Pinterest and fell totally in love...isn't it soooo sweet!

Photo from Flickr

I just had to have that sunflower pattern...but ugh...no pattern anywhere to be found.  I scanned Ravelry and several other sources...but nothing quite like this flower design showed up.  So I set out to make my own pattern...and think I captured it pretty well....

I was pretty darn excited when I got done!!

So for anyone else who really really wants a "growing in the field" type sunflower - here it is!

Crochet Sunflower
Supplies:
Worsted Weight Yarn - Dark Brown, Bright Yellow
Crochet Hook – 5.50 mm ( size I )

All terms are American crochet -
Stitches used:  hdbl (half double)  dbl (double)  htrb (half treble)

American htrb =
  • Yo twice. Insert hook in next stitch and draw up a loop (4 loops on hook)
  • Yo and draw through two loops (3 loops on hook)
  • Yo and draw through remaining loops (1 loop on hook)
  • Picot – chain three, sl st into third chain from hook

    Center - Dark Brown:
Row 1 – ch 4 and join to make circle
Row 2 – 6 sc in center and place stitch marker (6)
    Row 3 – 2sc into each sc around (12)
Row 4 – 2sc in first ch space, 1 sc in next ch space *repeat around* (18)
Row 5 – 2sc in first ch space, 1 sc in next two ch spaces, *repeat around* (24)

    Petals - Change to yellow

SL stitch into next ch space – entire petal is made in this ch space throughout
1st petal  – chain 2 (counts as first hdbl), dbl, htrb, picot, htrb, dbl, hdbl
Skip 1 ch space and sl stitch into the next chain space
    Second and all remaining petals:
In same ch space as you sl st – hdbl, dbl, htrb, picot, htrb, dbl, hdbl – skip one chain space and start next petal in the next chain
Repeat this petal all the way around until you meet first petal made

Bind off – weave in ends - DONE!

Attach to purse, pin or hat for a sunny and happy accessory!
                                                                                    Carol

I absolutely LOVE this tutorial! This is a beautiful Sunflower that is also easy to create for a beginner! I have already made three for family and wore mine to a job interview! Thanks so, so much for providing us with this tutorial! Sunflowers are my favorite, so this pattern is definitely a keeper!

The sunflower couldn't be cuter. It came out just perfect. I am attaching it to a beach bag and know that the sunflower lover that I'm giving this bag to will be pleased.
Thank you for sharing your pattern.

Sunflowers are my favorite! ♥ I have a pattern but it takes forever and is layered so you have to start it when your finished. I don't like it. However, I stumpled upon your pattern through Pintrest and I LOVE IT!! Thank you so much for making such a perfect sunflower that will make me happy in my spring hat days!!
